Applications are open for unmarried male and female candidates, including wards of Battle Casualties of Indian Army Personnel, to apply for the Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Indian Army. Eligible candidates must meet specific nationality, age, and educational criteria.

Eligibility:

  • Nationality: Candidates must be citizens of India, subjects of Nepal, or persons of Indian origin who have migrated from select countries with the intention of permanently settling in India. Gorkha subjects of Nepal do not require a certificate of eligibility.
  • Age Limit: For NCC candidates (including wards of Battle Casualties), the age limit is 19 to 25 years as of 01 Jan 2025.

Educational Qualifications :

For NCC 'C' Certificate Holders:

  • A degree from a recognized university with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
  • Final-year students can apply if they have secured a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the first two/three years of their degree course.
  • A minimum 'B' grade in the NCC 'C' Certificate Exam.
  • Provisional NCC 'C' Certificate holders must obtain the final certificate before appearing for the SSB

For Wards of Battle Casualties of Indian Army Personnel:

  • A degree from a recognized university with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
  • NCC 'C' certificate is not required.
  • Required documents include a Battle Casualty certificate, relationship certificate, and relevant notifications.

Vacancies:

  • NCC Men: 70 (63 for General Category and 07 for Wards of Battle Casualties).
  • NCC Women: 06 (05 for General Category and 01 for Wards of Battle Casualties).

Terms and Conditions of Service:

  • Tenure: The SSC is initially granted for 10 years, extendable by 4 years. Permanent Commission may be granted based on eligibility and suitability.
  • Probation:Officers are on probation for six months.
  • Termination:The commission may be terminated due to misconduct, unsatisfactory performance, medical unfitness, or failure to qualify in prescribed tests. 
  • Reserve Liability: SSC officers have a reserve liability of five years plus two years on a voluntary basis.
  • Training: The training duration is 49 weeks at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai.- Candidates are not allowed to marry during the training period. Successful candidates receive a ‘Post Graduate Diploma in Defence Management and Strategic Studies’ from the University of Madras.The cost of training is covered by the government, but candidates withdrawing for personal reasons must refund the training cost.

  • Lieutenant: On commissioning
  • Captain: After 2 years
  • Major: After 6 years 
  • Lieutenant Colonel: After 13 years

  • Lieutenant: Level 10 (₹ 56,100 - ₹ 1,77,500)
  • Captain: Level 10B (₹ 61,300 - ₹ 1,93,900)
  • Major: Level 11 (₹ 69,400 - ₹ 2,07,200)
  • Lieutenant Colonel: Level 12A (₹ 1,21,200 - ₹ 2,12,400)
  • Colonel: Level 13 (₹ 1,30,600 - ₹ 2,15,900)
  • Brigadier: Level 13A (₹ 1,39,600 - ₹ 2,17,600)
  • Major General: Level 14 (₹ 1,44,200 - ₹ 2,18,200)
  • Lieutenant General HAG Scale: Level 15 (₹ 1,82,200 - ₹ 2,24,100)
  • Lieutenant General HAG+Scale: Level 16 (₹ 2,05,400 - ₹ 2,24,400)
  • VCOAS/Army Commander/Lieutenant General (NFSG): Level 17 (₹ 2,25,000 fixed)
  • COAS: Level 18 (₹ 2,50,000 fixed)
Other Allowances:- 
  • Military Service Pay: ₹ 15,500 per month for officers up to Brigadier rank.
  • Fixed Stipend for Cadet Training: ₹ 56,100 per month.
  • Various allowances based on rank, area of posting, and specific duties.
