The Department of Posts has invited applications for various Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) positions across its offices. These positions include Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevaks. This recruitment drive aims to fill vacancies in rural areas.

Job Profile

BRANCH POSTMASTER (BPM)

• Manages day-to-day operations of the Branch Post Office (BO) and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB).
• Markets and promotes postal department products and services.
• Oversees Customer Service Centres (CSCs).
• (Single-handed BOs only) Takes full responsibility for smooth branch function, including mail handling and delivery.
• Supervises Assistant Branch Postmasters (ABPMs) and performs their duties when needed.
• Carries out additional tasks assigned by superiors.

ASSISTANT BRANCH POSTMASTER (ABPM)

• Sell stamps and stationery.
• Deliver mail and parcels.
• Manage mail exchange with the account office.
• Handle deposits, payments, and other IPPB transactions.
• Assist the Branch Post Master (BPM) in all postal operations.
• Help market and promote departmental products and services.
• Assist with Customer Service Centres (CSCs).
• Cover for the BPM when needed by performing their duties.
• Complete any additional tasks assigned by superiors.

DAK SEVAKS (GDs)

• Sell stamps and stationery.
• Deliver mail and parcels.
• Handle deposits, payments, and other IPPB transactions.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Postmaster/Sub Postmaster.
• Work in Railway Mail Service (RMS) sorting offices (if required).
• Handle mail bag receipt, dispatch, and transfer in mail offices.
• Assist Postmasters/Sub Postmasters in various tasks like:
• Managing smooth postal operations.
• Marketing departmental products and services.
• Business procurement.
• Complete any additional tasks assigned by superiors.

Emoluments and Allowances

The Department of Posts has announced that Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) will receive an annual increase of 3% in their Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA). This increment is subject to fulfilling specific conditions outlined in the GDS Rules. GDS employees will also continue to benefit from Dearness Allowance on TRCA, as determined by the Government of India. Additionally, they are entitled to various allowances and social security benefits, including: GDS Gratuity, Service Discharge Benefit Scheme (similar to the New Pension Scheme for regular employees)

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

• Applicants must have a 10th standard pass certificate with passing marks in English and Math.
• Applicants must have studied the local language up to the 10th standard (with a special provision for Arunachal Pradesh).

Other Qualifications

• Knowledge of computer
• Knowledge of cycling
• Adequate means of livelihood

Age Limit

Minimum age: 18 years
Maximum age: 40 years

Selection Procedure

The Department of Posts will soon announce the shortlisted candidates on merit basis for Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) positions on their website and GDS Online Portal. Shortlisted individuals will be notified via SMS and email with details on document verification dates and required documents.
